The GLR Campaign recognizes Springdale, Arkansas, as a 2016 Pacesetter for its commitment to using data to drive the work as it created and implemented its school attendance strategy.
The participating schools have used Attendance Works’ School Attendance Tracking Tool to analyze chronic absence data for each school and to look at subgroups broken down by grade, racial/ethnic group, lunch status, English language learner status, disability status, etc. This analysis has helped identify which subgroups had the highest chronic absence rates so that school staff could work with these groups to identify specific and culturally sensitive ways to support families and children as they tried to improve their school attendance. The schools have also used school attendance tracking tools to put early warning and response systems in place so that staff are able to address issues and assign mentors to targeted children before absence becomes a bigger problem.
